Going for a triple whammy

  • by

When I first started dating my partner, like many couples we went through the mix tape phase. Granted, thanks to modern technology, it was playlists as opposed to time consuming cassette tapes, but the sentiment was the same. Once we had exhausted the usual thinly veiled aural flirting we ventured into year-based playlists. Suffice to say the 90s were a breeze, the noughties a bit trickier and, by the time we reached the 20s, it was practically impossible. I had to face facts, I was completely out the loop.

But, before you ship me off to the nursing home, last year I discovered a comparatively new band and actually adored an album that didn’t come out when I was at high school. For me, 2024 was the year of Norwegian noise makers Slomosa. Chunky riffs and a spacey stoner rock feel, they were prefect for those who mourn the loss of Kyuss and wish QOTSA would fire out albums a bit more regularly.

Last year saw the release of their second album, Tundra Rock, and being a somewhat unusual choice of support band during Alkaline Trio’s European tour. Unfortunately, they didn’t support on the Scottish date and I was still at that point completely oblivious to their majesty. They did however impress many on this tour, one of which being actor and comedian Rob Delaney, who posted about them online and my ears rejoiced!

It’s been a long wait but I’ll finally see them on their SOLD OUT headline date at Glasgow’s G2 in February and it’s my guess they will then be able to add gig of the year to last year’s album and band of the years titles at Lola Polooza HQ.

Check out a peek of their live prowess here;
